Will Computers Exist in the Future???  Will there be a new technology that will make our modern day computers useless… almost like the VCR,  not too many people still use them…now we have DVD player :)

Do you think that the evolution of technology is growing rapidly out of control? Do you think one day we are going to wake up and regret many of the technologies that we have in our lives?

I think that over the last century technology has had a rapid and dramatic change. We went from black and white TV to coloured HD. We went from taking countless hours finding information in libraries, to spending 10 minutes on the computer and finding the same information, and we went from landline phones, to chordless phones, to cell phones! But is it ever enough!?! All we want is to make everything better, smaller, faster…more convenient for us. But when is it too far?? Have we passed that line already?? Are we going to soon?? There are many questions we can adress for this, but we won’t always know the answers until they hit us right in the face. One day i think we will wake up and realize…WOW WTF DID WE DO!?!?! And i hope that that day isn’t in my life time :P

We all spend a countless number of hours on the computer. How many hours on average per day do you spend on the computer?

Response to my own question:

I spend at least I would say 3-4 hours a day on my computer. Yes I know that’s a lot. Just on a given day I would say. I just don’t have anything else really better to do while I’m at home. I have to check the latest Facebook gossip of course! Haha.

Yes we all spend a lot of time on our computers! When it comes to our personal life and our school life, a lot of it is done on the computer. Various, projects and assignments given by techers, computers are used to do them. When it comes to someones persnal life, it could mean MSN, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or many other communities on the internet. When i think of it like that, i think that 3-4 hours a day actually isn’t that bad. When i think about how much time i spend on the computer, i think its about 5-6 hours a day. Well actually not even a day, because i live at two different houses, my moms house doenst have a computer, she doesnt trust them, so sometimes i go 4 days without being on a computer, which means when i get the time to be on one, i try to do as much homework as possible and catch up on whatever i missed thoes 3 days i was away :P

Vanessa Million: Question 1.

Do you think that technology has made us more social or anti-social?

I find it interesting that I have a tendency to take out my cell phone when I want to avoid talking to someone. I know it sounds horrible… but I notice that a lot of other people do it too. Ipods apply the same way, many people…

I think that it is true a lot of people do use their iPods and cell phones as a way of avoiding someone walking past, i definetly do it. And yes maybe it makes someone more anti-social, but if they dont want to talk to that person then why should they have to. Its not technology that is exactly making you not want to talk to that person walking past you. And people say all the time that being on the computer talking to people isolates people, but when i get to talk to my firends who live in Quebec or family who live in Calgary, i don’t feel isolated, but more social. Yes, talking on the computer to everyone isn’t very social, it is better to go outside and do something with your friends, BUT don’t forget…people who work are at their jobs for about 8 hours a day talking to living people not computers…WE are in school, Monday through Friday from 8:20 - 2:40 and some people even go to work for about 5 hours after that!!! We get plenty of social contact in our lives, and i personally like my alone time when i get home from school, i dont need anymore social contact after that.

Julie's Blog: Quote: "This is perhaps the most beautiful time in human history; it is really pregnant with all kinds of creative...

I thought this quote was interesting. If I were to take a step out of society and look in I would see a world controlled by technology. Many people are loosing their jobs and are being replaced by machinery that can do the job more efficiently and in less time. I have said and have heard many…

I think this Quote is very true. Over the past 20 years, even befroe then, there have been many creative thinkers. People who think so abstractly as to create, computers, phones, cell phones, iPods, Laptops and many more things. With all these inventions, man has learned how to manipulate to their advantage many new and useful resources from theses inventions. Blog sites, like this one, Facebook, MSN… On iPods they have thousands of different applications, for music, education, games, and the news. But do we really have control over our technology?? Recent studies have shown that students in University couldn’t go ONE DAY without using any type of technology. The university students went through withdrawls, as if they were drug addicts in rehab for a couple of weeks. So what does this mean? It means, that we definatly do not have control over our technology, more like the technology is controlling us.

 Awwwww … Poor cactus :(

All of the biggest technological inventions created by man - the airplane, the automobile, the computer - says little about his intelligence, but speaks volumes about his laziness. ~Mark Kennedy

First of all I just want to say that I love this quote! This quote is SO true. Technology is made to make our lives easier, which makes us lazier. I know people who have their license and a car, and because they have a car they feel that they need to drive everywhere…even if it’s only a 5 minute walk from where they are. Now if the weather is extremely cold or it’s raining then I can understand why they would want to drive, but if it’s sunny and 25 degrees why not walk!?!

Colleen's Blog: Q2 - Our society is addicted to technology, can you live without your cellphone?

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/story?id=2665376&page=1

In this article a married couple who were addicted to their cellphones, were challenged to go without their cell phones for 5 days. They both agreed but by the end of the first day they were going through serious withdrawl. I went to the…

I thought the fact that the couple who was addicted to their cellphones went through withdrawl after 1 day was kind of sad. Yes I know some people feel the need to be on their cell phone in order to be in contact with the world, but we have lived without cell phones before so Im sure we can live without them again. I know when I broke my cell phone in January I was upset and wanted a new phone but I didnt buy a new cell phone until about the middle of February and I could have went longer without it. So I think that I could live without my cell phone, but I know living without my cell phone would make things a little more difficult.

This photo shows one of the issues with computers. It is a hand comming out of a laptop, illustrating the risk of letting people into your life over the internet. Yesterday I read an artilce published on the National Post about a man, posing as a young female nurse, going onto websites convincing suicidal teens across the world to kill themselves and let him watch. I found this article disturbing and this shows just one of the porblems with computers. Another risk while being on the computer is being at risk for theft identity. It has happened to hundreds of thousands of people across the world over the internet. As more and more software, blog sites, and online communitites are being made, we need to be more aware of the risk they cause to us, and maybe it won’t happen to us.

This is a pitcure from the movie Wall-E. In this picture it shows what possibly may happen to the human species in the future. On the left side, it shows a person sitting talking on a projector screen and drinking a drink that it is three-quaters the size of himself. Also, the chairs that the people are sitting are moving on some kind of high-tech convyer belt in which their chairs do not touch the ground. This symbolizes how technology is changing our world so drastically and how people are being so dependent on it. These people depend on technology to communicate, as entertainment and also so simply get around. If technology does not slow down I truly believe that something like this picture may actually become how people live on Earth one day. Maybe not to this extreme but something similar to it.

This is photo I believe does show what the future may look like and it is a scary thought. People are already on the computer, cell phone or sitting on the couch for a lagre amount of time throughout the day, not all people but I can’t think of one person I don’t know that isn’t like that or worse. And my parents are always telling me how when they were kids they were always outside, never inside, but today I barley see them going outside for physical activity, but then they use the excuse that they get enough at work… is that just an excuse?? Ive seen pictures of my parents when they were kids and they were fit and healthy, now they are still healthy but not as fit, maybe that comes with age, but I think the TV has a little something to do with it. So if I can see a change in physicaly fit teen to a un-fit adult, what is a un-fit teen going to look like as an adult?? It may just be what that picture looks like, and that is definatly not how I want to be.
